Our favorite new name of a beer comes from Stilwater out of Baltimore.  It's called
Why Can't IBU?"  Sadly it only has 23 IBUs which goes to show never trust a beer
with a
real 3-D label (viewing glasses not included.

We like the fact that for every bottle of Brother Thelonious Abbey Ale sold by
North Coast they make a donation to the Thelonious Monk Institute for Jazz.

Founded in 1877 in Balsfjord, Norway, is the world's Northermost brewery
Mack Bryggeri (named after its founder).  Don't worry about the cold if you go.
Summer temperatures average just over 50 degrees.

Trader Joe's food store chain is partnered with several major California breweries to
create low cost house brands selling for as low as $2.99 a sixpack. And it's not
terrible beer.  Just don't expect Westy 12 or Heady Topper.

At Borg Brugghus, brewers created an IPA that is flavored with sheep dung.  Their
Fenrir 26 is made with barley that has been smoked over giving it a unique taste
(well this is a family website).  It will be available in North American next year.

There is often disagreement over what beer best pais with the rich, spicy cuisine
of Chinese Szechuan food.  We recommend a stout, oatmeal in particular. Then
again neither of us really like Szechuan food so keep that in mind.

If you see a Mikkeller beer grab it since the gypsy brewer makes so many varieties
(over 125 a year) that batches are small and sell quickly.

Can hops become extinct? It has happened numerous times since hops were first
used in beer.  Some scientists say he Czech varietal Saaz has been falling for
decades and might become endangered.  We prefer Cascade anyway.

Quiz time - match the beer from 21st Amendment with its style -  1.. Brew Free or
Die; 2. Bitter American; 3. Fireside Chat; 4. Back in Black
Hey, don't look at the answers - A. Black IPA; B. Session ale; C Spiced ale; D, IPA

"Instead of water we got here a draught of beer... a lumberer's drink, which would
acclimate and naturalize a man at once- which wold make him see green, and, if he
slept, dream that he heard the wind sough among the pines."
Henry David Throeau

First century natural history writer Pliny the Elder was allegedly the first person to
describe hops in written form which is why Russian River named their famous beer
after him. We don't care if it's true as long as the beer is so good.

Some research shows that a yard of beer was a Victorian era creation often used
for drinking contests and big wagers.  Does 3 feet equal a year in liquid??

It was  not uncommon for 18th century British upper class members to brew a strong
beer on the  birth of an heir and only tap it when he turned 21.  Stale beer folks.

The highly regarded Weyerbacher Brewery (Easton, PA) was actually founded in
the basement of an old livery stable in 1995.  The brewery moved; the stable stayed.

The nation's capital now boasts of a single brewery that is totally solar-powered,
Atlas Brew Works.  Brewers there pray daily for sunshine.

Dogfish Head has released a beer claimed to have 658 IBUs called Hoo Lawd.
The typical IPA had between 40 and 60 IBUs.  They claim it's the hoppiest
commercial beer ever made.  The downside is that many experts say that the
human palate can't detect graduations in bittnerness over 80- 100 IBUs.
At one point, Dogfish Head was the smallest operation in the country; today
it is America’s 13th-largest craft brewer.

Overall, craft beer has been a fast-growing industry, now making up over 11%
of the $102 billion domestic beer market. Case sales of craft beer jumped 18.8%
last year and easily bested the industry’s 2.1% increase

In a recent survey 71% of craft-beer drinkers say they buy beer to
complement their food.  The honest 29% know that is total BS.

Microbrewers have been working hard to get their water usage down.  The current
industry average is three gallons of water for every gallon of beer.  That doesn't
include Budweiser which is one gallon of water to one gallon of beer.

Corona Extra has been brewed and bottled in Mexico since 1925. It was
introduced to the United States in 1981.  The rest is lime history.
