Sam Adams/Boston Beer Company sponsors a program that offers business loans
up to $25000 to applicants in the food and beverage industries.  They also offer
"speed coaching" in which they share their business knowledge to startups.

A hospital in La Crosse, WI has devised a system to capture bio-gas from the
waste produced by local breweries.  They convert it into electricity which saves
the hospital over $7 million each year.

The principles behind light's destructive effects on beer's taste is that it degrades
hops and produces a free radical called a "Skunky Thiol" which is similar to a
compound found in skunk glands.  It is so strong that only a few parts per trillion
ruins the beer.  The remedy: use dark bottles or cans.

We're not fans of chili infused beers but if you must consider trying these:  Dogfish
Head's Theobroma, Founder's Barrel Aged Spite Poblano, Cigar City's Smokabaga.

"A good local pub has much in common with a church, except that a pub is warmer,
and there's more conversation"   William Blake (1757-1827)

If you enjoy lobster try pairing it with a Flanders style red ale or Grand Cru.  Our
favorites are Schlafly Grand Crue along with Rodenbach Grand Cru.

Richard Fuggle introduced Fuggle Hops to the British market in 1875 and it quickly
became a fundamental component of English brewing.  They add a mild, wood, and
somewhat fruity aroma to many beers.

Getting ready for those last cook outs as the warm weather nears its end?  We
recommend a refreshing Kolsch with your grilled foods.  It won't overpower sauces,
makes a good partner for salads, and goes well with potato salad and coleslaw.

President Jimmy Carter legalized homebrewing on the federal level in 1979 but
individual states remained able to determine their own liquor laws.  Mississippi
became the last state to legalize homebrewing in 2013.  Yes, only 2 years ago.

The word beer comes from the Latin word ‘bibere’ meaning ‘to drink’.

One method of checking a beer’s quality is the way in which the foam adheres to
the side of the glass after each sip. Beer connoisseurs call this “Brussels lace.”
However that's only true  if the glass was properly cleaned.

The portable beer cooler was invented in Australia in the 1950s.

Beer was the first legal alcoholic beverage to be sold when prohibition was
repealed.  Beer was legal on April 7, 1933, but other alcoholic beverages could
not be legally purchased until December 5, 1933.

you place your coaster on top of your glass, signaling that you have had enough.

Beer was used to treat over 100 illnesses in Egypt, 1600 BC.

Beer in cans & bottles (packaged beer) outsold draught beer for the first time in
1940. Canned beer outsold bottled beer for the first time in 1969.

At any given time, 0.7% of the world population is drunk. That means 50 million
people are drunk right now. Beer is the main contributor to the drunkenness.

Ale is the primary style of beer consumed in England. Lager beer is the dominant
beer style throughout the rest of the brewing world.

Some studies have shown that a bottle of beer a day reduces the
chances of kidney stones by 40%.

There is documentation of diet beer brewed in ancient Sumer. It was called
eb-la, which translates to “lessens the waist”.

The flavouring agent used in early European beers was purchased through a
network of distributing agents (usually a combination of the Church and state)
and served as an early form of taxation.

Because the agricultural products used to brew beer are traded as commodities, the
qualities of a beer are dependent almost entirely on the brewer and their input.

Copper is essential to yeast nutrition in the brewing process, so much so that
all-stainless steel breweries have to install lengths of copper pipe to ensure the
proper living conditions for yeast.

Hops are cultivated between the 35 and 55 parallel in both the Northern and
Southern hemispheres as they require specific summertime day lengths to
produce cones.

When experimenting with taste-testing, be sure to take notes with a mechanical
pencil, as the smell of wood pencils can affect your perceptions of the beer.
