"Beer is the feast of reason and the flow of soul."
Alexander Pope

A cure for brown spots in your lawn is beer.  Really.  Try watering them with any
beer (cheaper the better) and the fermented sugars will not only kill unwanted
fungus they will also provide food for the struggling lawn.

Six famous home brewers:  George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
H.L.Mencken, Hunter S. Thompson, Kathy  Ireland, Jim Koch

Try  pairing your favorite Quadruel with almost any juicy summer melon.  As a bonus
put some and white Cheddar cheese on the plate too.  You can thank us later.

On the one year anniversary of the famed New Belgium Brewing Company,
(Fort Collins, CO) employees became employee-owners, garnering a share
and a vote in the company  along with a free brand new cruiser bike.

Take your pick: " A bar is better than a newspaper for public discussion" -Jim Parker
"A tavern is a place where madness is sold by the bottle". - Jonathan Swift.

Widmer Brothers claims to be the first brewing company to serve up pints with slices
of citrus.  Now we know who to blame.  Supposedly the tangy juice went so perfectly
with the bready, yeasty tastes of their beer that bartenders continued the trend.

The first "double" or "dubbel" was brewed at the Trappist Abbey of Westmalle in
the Flanders region of Belgium.  Records show that the first official sale of
this ale, a strong version of a brown beer, was on June 1, 1861.

Try exercise to help  with a hangover.  An easy job will break a sweat and get your
blood flowing.  Both will help ride your body of toxins and make your feel better.
Of course this is an example of do as we say, not as we do.

Try a quality wit beer, such as the one from Allagash, with goat cheese, grapes, and
walnut salad.  It's a great combination.  As you snack, ask your companion
"wit beer are you drinking?"  It's a guaranteed laugh.  Maybe.

The tall, thin "pilsner" glass is perfect for the style since it hold the bubbles
and the head longer than any other kind of glass.

"Alcohol may be man's worst enemy, but the Bible says love  your enemy."
Frank Sinatra

Some lyrics  from our favorite Prohibition song:
"Mother's in the kitchen washing out the jugs.
Sister's in the pantry bottling the suds.
Father's in the cellar mixin' up the hops,
Johnny's on the front porch watchin' for the cops"

Beer can make you smarter.  A recent study showed that moderate beer drinking
can improve memory, reasoning, and problem solving.  As an added bonus, beer
has been shown to reduce the chances of kidney stones by 40%!

A very strong or Imperial stout was first brewed in London in 1796 by Thrale's
Brewery for export to the court of Catherine The Great, ruler of the Russian
Empire. When Thrale's was purchased by Courage & Co. they renamed it
"Courage Imperial Russian Stout".  The style quickly became famous simply as
Russian Imperial Stout and today it is brewed all over the world.

For the best homemade broccoli slaw ever try this:
 Ingredients- 1/2 cup lager,
1 1/2 cups of Miracle Whip Salad Dressing, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 1 pound
of prepared broccoli slaw mix (or regular cabbage slaw for the faint of heart).
Stir beer in a large bowl until it stops foaming.  Then blend in the salad dressing and
sugar. Add slaw mix and stir until slaw is well combined with dressing.  Refrigerate.

By German tradition in order to be called a hefeweizen, the beer must have
been brewed with at least 50% wheat - often mixed fifty-fifty with malted
barley- and must remain unfiltered.

If you took all the beer consumed in the USA in one year and put them in 12oz.
cans it would amount to once can for every American (over 21 of course),
each day of the week for a year.  Well, at least for six days a week. We think.

Life and beer are very similar .....chill for best results.

See you next month!
