Why sign up for the club dues full payment plan? Enjoy the many benefits available to club members on the full-payment plan. A one time fee of only $50 covers all meetings, plus discounts for DB15 special events. This year members received benefits that totaled well over the dues amount. Substantial discounts were provided for the TAP NY beer fest trip, the Newark Bears baseball outing, the NJ Brewers Festival, and the Victorian Dinner. | June 8 Meeting Report by Dan Hodge Members present were: Dan Soboti, DJ Soboti, Dan Hodge, Vince Capano, Brian Lynch,Glenn DeLuca, Brandon Einhorn, John Reed, Tom Nooney, Mark Ferguson , Livingston Hinckley, Steve Primich and Mike Depoy Meeting was a presentation of the Samuel Adams "deconstructed" Latitude 48 IPA package, featuring the Latitude 48 brewed with 5 different hops and the conglomeration of all five. Two tables were each given several ounces of Zeus, East Kent Goldings, Mosaic, Hallertau, and Simco hops. Each beer was then brought out unmarked except for the conglomeration (the Sam Adams Latitude 48) and the members tried to match the beer to the hop used by smelling the hop samples, and then recording their favorite and least favorite. Top results were scored by Dan Hodge, Dan Soboti, John Reed, and Vince Capano who each matched three correctly. DJ Soboti matched two and everyone else matched one. The favorite was the Mosaic hop with 9 votes, followed by East Kent Goldings with two votes and the conglomeration and Simcoe tied with one vote each. Hallertau and Zeus received no votes. The least favorite was East Kent Goldings (which inexplicably got the second MOST favorite votes) with five votes, followed by the conglomeration with four Hallertau with two and Zeus and Simcoe with one each. The Mosaic, which received nine FAVORITE votes got NO least favorite votes. Beers tried after the meeting were: 1. Brandon Einhorn's Warsteiner clone homebrew 2. Dan Hodge's Raj IPA homebrew 3. Dan Hodge's Second Attempt Hefeweizen 4. Neshaminy Creek Blitzkrieg Hops Double IPA, provided by Vince Capano Meeting ended at 6:10 pm. Sunday, June 8, at 4 PM, only at the Gaslight. -------- Additional Tasting Notes on Deconstructed Latitude 48 •Latitude 48 Hallertau Mittelfrueh IPA – Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops [Hallertau, Germany] create soft bitterness along with delicate lemony citrus and resinous pine notes, balanced by a slight sweetness and full body from the malt. •Latitude 48 East Kent Goldings IPA– East Kent Goldings [East Kent, UK] add a mellow bitterness with earthy, floral and apricot notes, offset by a slight sweetness. •Latitude 48 Ahtanum™ IPA– Ahtanum™ hops [Yakima Valley, WA] contribute a very balanced and typically “American” orange peel, piney and floral flavor and aroma to this brew, tempered by a slight sweetness. •Latitude 48 Simcoe® IPA– Simcoe® hops [Yakima Valley, WA] add bitterness and dramatic grapefruit peel and pine resin notes, with the slight sweetness and full malt body. •Latitude 48 Zeus IPA– Zeus hops [Yakima Valley, WA] contribute bitterness and an intense, pungent resinous pine flavor.
