| Notes of the January 11, 2015 Meetig by Dan Hodge Cask Commissioners met at 3:45 pm and decided that the February meeting will be a “sensory awareness” meeting with some commercial brews provided to better illustrate the tastes in the doctored samples. The meeting's purpose will be to instruct club members on how to judge and evaluate beer as the professionals do. The session will be run by DJ Soboti and Jeff Levine. Regular meeting commenced at 4:10 pm. Members present were: Dan Soboti, DJ Soboti, Vince Capano, Dan Hodge, Brian Lynch, Jeff Levine, Matt Chuchla, Brandon Einhorn, Randy Needham, Sean guarnaccio, Chris Johnson, Andrew MacKenzie, Scott Reino, Glenn de Luca, Raffi Manjeekian, and Vince Holmes. Non members attending were: Greg Needham, Bob Renshaw, Jeff Corcione, Cosmo Antonacci, Patrick Dwyer, Susie Suarez,Charles Feldman, Nancy Feldman, and Rebecca Espinal. Meeting was a presentation by Jonathan Scala, representative of Pabst Brewing Company who spoke the company. His main focus was on the creation and highly successful re-introduction of the famed Ballantine IPA . Mr. Scala poured samples of Pabst Blue Ribbon and Ballantine IPA while the club provided multiple pitchers of the Ballantine. A brief history of Pabst/Ballantine was given by Mr. Scala with a few corrections being made by older members who had a tad more knowledge on the history than did the speaker. But that’s okay. The younger set has to learn somehow!. He did explain that Greg Duhs, the brewmaster for Pabst works in Cold Spring, Mn. where a micro brewery actually brews the Ballantine IPA. He added that Ballantine XXX ale is brewed at varied facilities by the Miller/Coors conglomerate which contract brews all Pabst products. He asserted that Pabst was actively searching for a place in the Newark area to locate a brewery to specifically brew Ballantine. Several drawings were held after the meeting. Dan Soboti won the 50/50 and Raffi Manjeekian and Brian Lynch won the coveted packages go Ballantine IPA T Shirt/cap/opener. Beer sampled at CC meeting was Belo Sao Francisco Brazilian Dubbel provided by Vince Capano. Beers sampled after the meeting were: 1. Brandon Einhorn’s Irish Stout, 1and 1/2 years old homebrew 2. Andrew MacKenzies’s DB15 Competition ESB (not entered in comp) homebrew 3. Adroit Theory Coffee IPA, provided by Chris Johnson 4.
