Hope everyone had a great holiday season!  We here at Nik's Wunderbar all wish you
a happy and beer filled 2015!  My hope for the new year is that more people than ever
get a chance to experience the amazing flavors in craft beer.  Those who say they don't
really like beer were usually turned off by the macro products of Bud, Coors, and Miller.
With that they often turn to other adult beverages.  The one group that most typifies
anti-beer sentiment is women. Their beverage of choice is mainly wine.  In fact, wine
is drunk by more than twice as many women as beer.

We beer folks of both genders should have it as our mission to encourage more everyone
to make beer their top beverage choice.  To do that we need to address their misconceptions
about beer generally so they can discover just how good true craft beers really are.

Starting with calories, there is a misconception that wine has less calories than beer. This
is simply not true.  A typical beer at 5% or so has fewer calories than the same volume of a
standard wine. So there goes the myth that beers are more fattening than wine.

Not only does beer have less calories than the same volume of wine but it also
has fewer calories than milk or fruit juice!

Beer is in fact packed with many of the nutrients the body needs for a
healthy diet. It was once known as 'liquid bread'.

Even better, unlike other alcoholic drinks, beer is chock full of vitamins and minerals.
A pint of craft beer will supply over 5% of your daily protein needs, whereas wine has
zero protein.  Another fact is that beer has absolutely no cholesterol or fat  and
contains useful quantities of soluble fibre.

Many studies have shown that the alcohol in beer benefits our heart and
circulations ystems.  Also, the Polyphenols in beer tare effective at
scavenging harmful cancer inducing free radicals.

There are many more health benefits to beer but I think you get the idea.
The conclusion is that drinking beer in moderation is truly good for you!
