Dogfish or Hogfish?

Florida Keys Brewing Company fans, don’t fret. You can still
order the local brewer’s popular Hogfish Amber. But because
of threatened legal action by a well-known Delaware brewer,
ask for a Spearfish Amber instead. Local owners Craig and
Cheryl McBay said they received an email from the owners of
Dogfish Head Brewery that threatened legal action if the name
of the Keys Brewing beer wasn’t changed. Craig McBay said
the Dogfish Head Brewery representative was concerned
consumers “would not be able to differentiate when ordering
a ‘Hogfish’ or a ‘Dogfish’”  Note to Mr. McBay - A dogfish
is a type of small shark. A hogfish is a wrasse and a popular
food fish, especially in South Florida and the Florida Keys.

Phony Hawaii

The bottles might sport hula dancers, surfers and big waves
but two California residents say the company that owns
Kona Brewing Co. is misleading shoppers into believing
they’re buying beer brewed in Hawaii. so they have filed a
lawsuit. In the suit, the plaintiffs say the company's use of
hula dancers, surfers, the Kilauea volcano, Waikiki beach, and
other images and phrases clearly associated with the Aloha
State are deceiving customers into paying more for the craft
ales. The names of the beers such as Big Wave Golden Ale,
Castaway IPA, Fire Rock Pale Ale and Longboard Island
Lager also allegedly give off a deceptively Hawaiian vibe.
Mr. Brewski says they have inspired him to sue Milwaukee's
Finest for deception. That stuff is Milwaukee's Worst!

Nine out of ten beers sold in the world are lagers, not
ales. One possible reason - a lager scours the palate clean
and leaves you feeling refreshed. And it's usually cheaper.

Speakeasy Ales & Lagers after agreeing to enter receivership
says it's tap room will remain closed, but the brewery
continues to produce while a sale to a new owner is
anticipated to close during by the end of next month.
