River Horse Hippo's Hand This Imperial IPA (9%) opens with big citrus scentsr led by orange peel, flora hops and light malt. Flavors are caramel, mango, orange, pineapple, lemon zest, and grapefruit. The bitterness is moderate with just a hint of malt sweetness. The finish is crisp with faint echoes of alcohol. One of the best beers by this brewer. Overall Rating: Good+ |
Yards Golden Hop IPA This is a refreshing, almost session IPA at 6.0% ABV. It features notes of grapefruit, mango, tangerine, berries, apricot, peach, and soft pine. It's bright in the nose, and even brighter in the flavor. The finish brings lemon, more citrus, grassy hops, and a perfect touch of bitterness. Body is a bit thin but it fits with the overall tone of the beer. It is well made and tasty. Overall Rating: Very Good- |
Lagunitas Dark Swan This American Wild Ale (8.7% ABV) will have you thinking Pinot Noir from first sip to last. It's nose brings fruity, dark grapes, berries, and more grapes. Taste features notes of raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, dark grapes, and tart lemon. Malts stay in the background but bring a touch of sweetness. This will not be everyone's cup of tea but to me it was unique and delicious. Overall Rating: Very Good++ |
