Thanks for reading our newsletter. I hope you enjoy some of the great things we have planned. This is the only place to get the first look at what's happening at The Tap Room! Kevin Torpey |
| It started as Delaware’s first brewpub and then became the smallest commercial brewery in America. Their very first batch was brewed on a system which essentially was three little kegs with propane burners underneath. The system so small they had to brew three times a day, five days a week. They quickly got bored brewing the same things over and over – that’s when they began using all sorts of weird ingredients and earning a reputation for making unconventional beers. Take a guess... no, we're not talking about Anheuser-Busch or even the average craft brewery. We're talking about a company that produces 20 styles of beer that are sold in more than 25 states. The bard of beer, Michael Jackson, called it the most interesting brewery in all the US. It's the amazing Dogfish Head when they make "off-centered stuff for off-centered people" just like us. And so The Tap Room proudly presents four of the finest off-centered brews ever made, together for the first time on tap. It's a blowout of monster brews not for the faint of heart but perfect for the heart of beer lovers. Friday, February 15 at 6 PM Howl With The Dog Night 120 Minute IPA Hellhound On My Ale Bitches Brew ---and aged for nearly 2 years-- Old School Barleywine 2011 ------------ The most elusive 120 Minute IPA is an American Imperial IPA that boasts an incredible 18% ABV and 120 IBUs. How hoppy is it? Well, it was boiled for a full two hours while being continuously hopped with high-alpha American hops, then dry-hopped daily in the fermenter for a month and aged for another month on whole-leaf hops! It's not just a hop bomb, it's more like an Atomic Hop Bomb. It's been rated "world class" and "exceptional". One glass and you'll agree. |
| Hellhound On MY Ale is a Double IPA at 10% alcohol and 100 IBUs. It is dry- hopped with 100% centennial hops at a rate of 100 kilos per 100 bl. brew- length. Expect flavors of floral hops, orange peel, lemon, honey, biscuit, malt, and light pineapple. Some sweet malts help balance things into a sharp, dry finish. Truly excellent - one of my favorites. Dogfish's Bitches Brew is an Imperial Stout at 9% ABV. This is a bold, dark beer that’s a fusion of three threads imperial stout and one thread honey beer with gesho root. This limited edition beer always sells out quickly on those few times I'm able to get . For the past two years I've personally aged our next offering to bring out depths of flavors that at not present in younger versions. From 2011 we will be pouring Dogfish's Old School Barleywine It's a 15% ABV showcase of the brewer's art with bold yet smooth flavors of raisins, caramel, orange peel vanilla, dates and figs. Let's just say that this bone-crushing barleywine is unique and most enjoyable. A four glass beer sampler will be available - February 15, Friday, 6 PM ==Plan Ahead== Friday, March 26 at 6 PM Great Divide Night We will have - on TAP Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti Espresso Oak Aged Yeti Orabelle Belgian Triple 2011 Oak Aged Yeti Details will be in my next Newsletter .Please say hello when you see me at the Tap Room. | Thanks to everyone for supporting the first two parts of our MAY TRIPLE PLAY. We had great turnouts for our Black Friday and Stone Enjoy By nights! Now it's time for what just might be the best of the bunch - May 17, Friday, 6 PM direct from Chico, CA we offer you Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Belgian Blonde IPA Summerfest Hoptimum and (it's the one you've heard about) OVILA QUAD with PLUMS --------------------- Named one of the Top Breweries In The World for 2013, Sierra Nevada is known for using the highest quality and freshest ingredients while insuring every part of the brewing process is done in an environmentally responsible manner. Sierra Nevada uses only whole-cone hops in all their ales and lagers. Whole-cone hops are the flowers of the hop plant in their most natural state, maintaining the precious aromatic oils and resins inside. In fact, Sierra Nevada uses more whole-cone hops than any brewer in the world! You'll see this in the clean, bold and pure hop notes in each of the beers we'll be pouring. Our first offering is Bigfoot, a cult-classic beast of a barleywine (9.6%). It brims with bold flavors of bittersweet malt and whole- cone hops. It was produced in traditional open fermenters—steel tanks, open at the top to allow the yeast to breathe and live. The yeast reacts differently when given this free-range alternative, producing a special depth, character and flavor rarely seen in beers of this style. Beer experts have rated Bigfoot "World Class". Expect wonderful sweet caramel notes up front, followed by spice and pine. The finish brings a hoppy bitterness with light traces of sweet orange. The Belgian Blonde IPA (7.5%) features lightly sweet tropical fruit flavors with a brisk hop finish. It's a new style that uses multiple malts, American hops, and Belgian yeast strains. It's akin to an IPA crossed with a Belgian Tripel. It reminds me of a zesty white wine blended |
| with citrus, and grassy hops over malty underpinnings. It's a wonderful, flavorful treat for any beer fan. The Summerfest is a refreshing lager (5%) in the Czech tradition. It's clean and crisp with a light grassy bitterness that is matched nicely by toasted malts. When you reach the finish look for waves of barley and hop smoothness leading to a dry, bitting end. This is one of my favorite warm weather beers! Hoptimum (10.4%) is a knock your socks off,100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. It's the biggest Imperial IPA ever made by Sierra Nevada! It's hopped, dry hopped and torpedoed for a hard to imagine blast of flavor and complexity. No wonder it's rated "exceptional". Expect huge piney, earthy, and grapefruit hop notes in a background of toasty, semi- sweet, caramel tinged malts. The Ovila Quad with Plums has only been brewed once! Very complex, the beer is a collaboration between Sierra Nevada and the monks of the Abbey of New Clairvaux (CA). It features sugar plums grown at the Abbey and harvested by the monks themselves. Flavors of candied sugar, engaging spiced yeast, and roasted malts appear at first sip. Plums then begin to appear providing a distinctive counterweight. Impressive!
