The Rock Hops American Music & Craft Beer Festival
Chris Marchio - sounds off on beer!
On Saturday, August 11  I'm off to the great The Rock Hops American
Music & Craft Beer Festival at Mercer County Park, NJ.  If you see me
wandering around be sure to say hello.  I'll be the guy with a beer in his
hand!

So just what is this festival?  The Rock Hops American Music and Craft
Beer Festival is a celebration of three of the most important staples of
life: beer, food, and music.  With innovative breweries from all around
the country, the sheer variety of beers available for tasting will make any
beer geek’s mouth water.  Some of the more notable breweries that will
be in attendance are
Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales, Allagash, Sierra
Nevada, Troegs, and Samuel Adams.

In addition to these big leaguers, there is wide selection of up and
coming talent that is rapidly growing in the world of craft beer.  Some of
these breweries include
Left Hand Brewing out of Colorado, Green
Flash Brewing
out of San Diego, and one of my personal favorites, Port
Brewing,
which is also out of San Diego.  Port Brewing will be
showcasing one of their seasonal beers called the HOP 15, which gets
its name from the enormous task of using 15 varieties of hops to create
a monster, yet balanced, Imperial IPA.   If IPA’s are your beer of choice,
you should definitely clear your schedule for August 11th!

The festival will also hold what they’re calling the
“Ring of Fire,” which is
simply an assortment of grilled and smoked meats that will accompany
the beer perfectly.  Some of the options available to festival goers will be
open pit racks of barbecue ribs, grilled sausages and bratwursts, Angus
burgers, grilled clams, and some good ole’ fashion London broil steak.
If meat is not your forte, no need to worry as there will be plenty of
vegetarian options including a falafel stand and a vegetarian burrito
bar.  There will also be your standard selection of fries and nachos and
other quick eats if you want to leave more room for beer.

If the beer and food weren’t enough, there will also be music all day
featuring some big name, nationally recognized touring acts, as well as
some local New Jersey talent.
Dark Star Orchestra, the most well known
Grateful Dead tribute act will headline, bringing its unique take on
familiar timeless music with “new” guitarist Jeff Mattson, formerly of the
Zen Tricksters.
The Bernie Worrell Orchestra, Rock and Rock Hall of
Fame organ master from the George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic
will funk the place up.  Other acts include honky tonk heroes
Citizens
Band Radio,
local favorites Quimby Mountain Band, and upstate New
York Americana
rockers Lucid, who will round out the day of music.

The 1st annual The Rock Hops American Music & Craft Beer Festival will
certainly be an amazing day for beer and music lovers alike. In terms of
tickets, there are two types available including a music ticket, which is
incredibly affordable (only $35), and the beer connoisseur ticket ($65),
which grants you access to an unlimited tasting of the wide variety of
craft beer offered and a souvenir tasting glass to bring home.

Let’s get a good crew to come out for this amazing event so it can
happen every year! For more information regarding all aspects of the
festival, please visit the link provided below and remember to drink
responsibly.
