Beer drinkers in Scotland each consume the equivalent of 120 more pints of
beer every year than their English counterparts.  On average that translates to 24
per cent more alcohol than folks in England and Wales which is about an extra two-
and-a-half pints a week, or two glasses of medium-strength wine if you prefer.

While we're on the subject of Scotland, shops and off licenses account for 68 per
cent of all drink sales sold,, double the figure from pubs, bars and nightclubs.

In the most recent U.S. Department of Health and Human Services survey, 57.6
percent of males aged 12 and older and 46.5 percent of females aged 12 and older
reported having consumed at least one alcoholic beverage in the past 30 days.

Comparing numbers of gallons of wine consumed per capita per year which
drinks more Washington DC or California?  
Answer: the nation's capital at 6.6, and California at only 3.4.

Members of cohabiting couples are 11.2 percent more likely than married people to
have had five or more drinks in a single day at least once in the past year.

Beer is the world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage and the third-most
popular drink overall.  Can you name the other two most popular? It's easy.

There are too many types of beer in the world to know the exact amount that
currently exist. However, we do know that Belgium is the country that has the most
individual beer brands.

You want some bubbles, to create a head on the beer, but not too many or the beer
will taste flat. So start by pouring into a glass that's tipped at a 45 degree angle to
minimise foam, then finish by tipping the glass upright for the remainder of the pour.

Lipstick or greasy fingers can stop a good head forming in your glass of beer.

Want to make your wimpy pale ale into one with a higher alcohol content?
Just put it in the freezer, when ice forms (the water freezing) pour the contents into
your glass and be careful not to have to many.  

In ancient Mesopotamia, beer was both a staple of the diet and used in religious
offerings and events. No imagery of Nin-kasi is thought to have survived the
centuries but many Sumerian carvings depict beer drinkers and drinking beer –
often through a straw.

During World War II, the RAF – and USAAF – used their planes to ship beer to
thirsty troops as unofficial “flying pubs”

Pale lager comes from the German word lagern meaning “to store” as German
brewers stored their beers in cool cellars during the warm summer months.

Beer counts for 61% of the alcohol consumed in Brazil.
