Malt, hops, and yeast - the essentials of beer - only make up 10% of the beer's cost
to the consumer.  The biggest costs are the brewer's margin, distributor's margin,
retailer's margin, taxes, and packaging.  Ouch... time to home brew.

Austin Beerworks sells a 99 pack of its Peacemaker Anytime  Ale for only $99 or a
dollar a beer.  The pack however is a bit hard to carry as it is 70 feet long and
weights 82 pounds.  The beer itself is rated by most people as above average.

The Oskar Blues Brewery in Brevard, NC runs a red trolley service from their
brewery/taprom/restaurant to the nearby city of Asheville.  It's an hour ride.

New Belgium's flagship beer, Fat Tire, was named to commemorate an early testing
trip taken by the company's - mode of transportation was bycycles.

"Never underestimate how much assistance, how much satisfaction, how much
comfort, how much soul and transcendence there might be in a well made taco and
a cold bottle of beer."  -  Tom Robbins, American novelist

Beer in India is still viewed as something of a luxury drink.  Annual per capita
consumption is under 2 liters as compared to Thailand with 31 liters per person.

The biggest selling beer in India is Kingfisher with 55% of the market.

During Prohibition Pabst sold 8 million pounds of Pabst-ett cheese as a
substitute for its beer business.  When Prohibition was finally repealed it
sold thecheese business to.....Kraft.

Will Farrell's popular ads for Old Milwaukee beer were a huge success.
Interestingly Ferrell approached Pabst and offered to do the ads for free solely
out of his love fro Old Milwaukee.

Bud's Platinum beer has a 6% ABV as compared to Bud Light's 4.2%
and it also has 8 fewer calories per serving.  We don't like either one.
Thirstily he set it to his lips, and as its cool refreshment began to soothe his
throat, he thanked Heaven that in a world of much evil there was still
so good a thing as ale." - Rafael Sabatini in his book Fortune's Fool

. Every serious beer geek knows about Russian River's Pliny The Elder. The
beer was named after a Roman statesman who some say was an early chronicler
of hops which at the time were called Lupus salictarius.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) was founded in Ireland in 1971 to advocate for
the rights of  brewers and consumers and to oppose the selling of beer in kegs
because of how it pasteurizes and over carbonates the beer.  CAMRA only
endorses beer that is served in casks.  We couldn't agree more.

Although it is widely believed that IPAs were born because regular pale ales
didn't fare well on the long trip from Britain to India many now see that story as
apocryphal.  This group believes IPAs just came to  describe a specific  type
of beer that was more strongly hopped.  It became very popular in India and
hence the name.

According the beer hunter Michael Jackson the first Belgian style tripel produced
b an American brewery appeared in the early 1990s and was made by Cambridge
Brewing.  The beer is still made today with proceeds going to charity.

One of the most expensive beers in the world is thought to be the Vielle Bon
Secours which retails for $1,000 for a 12L botttle and around $60 a pint.  It
only retails at the Belgo Bierodrome in London.

The Elba tablets, a collection of artifacts found in Syria in the 1970s, revealed
that in the city of Ebla, beer wasn't just being made in 2,000 BC, it was also being
advertised and traded with surrounding communities.

Derived from ancient Greek, the world zythology means the study of beer, beer
making, beer pouring, parings, and just about anything else to do with beer.

Ethanol, the intoxicant in beer, is a powerful antiseptic, but not a good cold
remedy. The optimal blood alcohol content to kill germs would be more than 60
percent. Alas, that’d kill you, too. (Fatal alcohol poisoning occurs between 0.40
and 0.50 percent.)

Most beer today is made by boiling grain. However, some ancient cultures had a
very different take on the process. In Incan society, women would chew corn and
then spit the mush into a vat of warm water where it was allowed to ferment.
