Jeff's view from behind the
by Jeff Levine
So I thought that this being
October & all, I would try a few Oktoberfest Beers & let
you know what I think. I don’t know about anywhere else,
but my local liquor store seemed to have fewer then in
years past. Only one import was available & not too many
micros this year.
Ruby Colored, nice malt nose didn’t follow through in the
flavor. Still the best bottled fest this year.
Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest:
Med amber color, a nice hoppy nose. The hops come
through slightly, but there wasn’t enough body or malt
flavor to finish this one. A little disappointing from the
beer that I have considered the standard of the style.
Dark Red gorgeous color, a slight diacetyl aroma that
luckily didn’t come through in the flavor too much. The
only word to describe this beer is Watery. It came up way
short on body.
Otter Creek Oktoberfest:
I had never seen this one before, but I am a fan of the
brewery. It wasn’t until I had poured it that I read the fine
print ‘Oktoberfest Ale’. The German in me immediately got
pissed & thought about storming the brewery in protest. It
turned out to be a good beer, not an Oktoberfest, but
good. Call it a Harvest Ale. Nice Mahogany color with lots
of body & a nice hop balance. A bit fruity which you
expect from an ale.
All of this tasting reminds me of when I was in Munich last
year…….. hey, you’ll have to wait for that story. See you
