| Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski, while addressed reports that Boston Red Sox players drank beer in the clubhouse during games last season, admitted that he has done the same.“Yes, I have before, sometimes you’re just really struggling and you just say, ‘Hey, you know what, I need something to calm me down and let’s have a beer.’ A couple of us will do it together, and sometimes it works out. "It's just, sometimes you just need a rally beer. If you’re in extra innings and you’re in about the 15th inning and you really need to get going again, that sometimes works." Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester readily admitted to drinking beer in the clubhouse during games this season, saying in his defense that it was a common practice in baseball. Of the 30 teams in baseball, just 12 still provide beer to their players. For the Red Sox, it long has been common practice to have rookies load up plastic bags with bottles or cans of beer to be consumed on the team bus after games. The Sox also provide alcohol on team flights. |
| Google Beer Googlies have entered into a partnership with the Dogfish Head brewery that has produced a beer called URKontinent. The ideas for the beer's ingredients came from all over the world. Legend has it that Urkontinent was the original supercontinent. Theproject with Dogfish Head brewery was a Googler-driven project organized by a group of craft brewery aficionados across the company. Google is not receiving any proceeds from the sale of the beer and we have no plans to enter the beer business. URKontinent is brewed in the style of a Belgian Dubbel. It begins with Pilsner, Munich and Chocolate Malts and Belgian Dark Candi syrup. Then we add unique ingredients from around the world. Wattleseed from Australia imparts a chocolate, coffee, and hazelnut taste to the beer. Toasted Amaranth from South America gives it an earthy, grainy flavor and a little additional roast flavor. Green Rooibos from Africa contributes a floral aroma and slight astringency. Myrica Gale from Europe supplements the bitterness from minimal hopping. Hive Plex Honey from California adds a subtle sweetness while maintaining the dry finish. The careful combination of all these ingredients creates a complex Belgian style ale with coffee and chocolate cherry flavors. It is currently only available on draft in very select locations. send contributions for On Tap to webmaster@beernexus.com |
