To my friend Dan Hodge,
Lord of Lager
Prince of Pilsner
Baron of Brew
Sultan of Suds

We neophytes bow humbly in your presence!

Homebrew or store bought,
domestic or foreign
this man has knowledge
of anything pourin’.

He’s traveled this country
as well as afar
to sample the tastings
of many a bar.

On the subject of suds,
he is very prolific.
His research is well done
  and very specific.

 He has a passion that
    he’s held quite dear.
  So in my estimation
   he’s the KING of BEER!

Robert Graves

What do you think
The bravest drink
Under the sky?”
“Strong beer,” said I.

There’s a place for everything,
Everything, anything,
There’s a place for everything
Where it ought to be:
For a chicken, the hen’s wing;
For poison, the bee’s sting;
For almond-blossom, Spring;
A beerhouse for me.”

Tell us, now, how and when
We may find the bravest men?”
“A sure test, an easy test:
Those that drink beer are the best,
Brown beer strongly brewed,
English drink and English food.”

William Butler Yeats

Beer comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That's all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh.

Harrry Crowne

The horse and cow live thirty years,
And nothing know of wines and beers,
The goat and sheep at twenty die,
And never taste of Scotch or Rye,

The modest, sober bone dry hen,
Lays eggs for years then dies at ten.
All animals are strictly dry;
They sinless live and quickly die.

But sinful, ginful, rum-soaked men
Survive for three score years and ten;
And some of us, the mighty few,
Stay pickled till we're ninety-two.
