The Saranac line is the most popular product of the F.X. Matt
Brewing Company which is an American family-owned
brewery at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in Utica,
New York. It is the second oldest family-owned brewery in the
United States, as it has been brewing beer since 1853.
And just in case you were wondering, Saranac is an
Iroquois word meaning “Cluster of Stars.”
Saranac features six "core beers"- IPA, White IPA, Pale Ale,
Adirondack Lager, Black Forest, Black & Tan- plus seven
seasonals including the highly rated Rye IPA and Kolsch.
New to their lineup is the "High Peak" series consisting of
Imperial IPA, Imperial Stout, and Imperial Chocolate Orange.
Join us for a tasting of an array of great Saranac beers and
learn more about one of the largest breweries in the country
at our next meeting
Sunday April 15 at 4 PM
This is a Mr. Rivers' only currently scheduled beer club

A Look Back
In 1885, young F.X. Matt I, a German-born immigrant,
left a promising career at the famous Duke of Baden
Brewery in the Black Forest region of Germany to
travel to the United States with the dream of owning his
own brewery someday. After several years of brewing
experience at the Bierbaur Brewery, F.X. Matt
re-organized the faltering brewery to create
The West End Brewing Company in 1888.
Serving as both the star salesman and brewmaster, the
brewery quickly became one of the largest and most
successful of the breweries in the area.
Today, Nick Matt (Chairman) and his nephew Fred
(President ) continue the brewing tradition with the Saranac
family of beers – a beer brewed to the same high standards
of quality F.X. Matt established more than a century ago.
Today Matt is the 13th largest brewery by volume in the
United States and the 7the largest craft brewery.
