| NO AUGUST MEETING ------------------------- July Meeting - We Help Save the World! Get ready to do your part to save the world as we watch the acclaimed documentary "How Beer Saved the World" and enjoy a sampling of beers that have played a part in doing just that. Did you know that beer was critical to the birth of civilization? That’s right – beer. Watch as scientists and historians line up to tell the amazing, untold story of how beer helped create math, poetry, pyramids, modern medicine, labor laws, and America. If you think beer is just a great beverage then you've got a lot to learn since it turns out beer is responsible for all the greatest things on earth. Need proof? Then don't miss this one time showing of a different kind of beer movie. The documentary uses animation, reenactments, historical footage, riveting anecdotes, and more, all tied together with a big helping of wry humor. No wonder it won many awards. While watching the film we will be sampling some historic beers - it's RETRO DAY at the DB15! Remember Genesee Cream, Utica Club, Carling Black Label, Blatz, Schlitz, and Schaefer? We're now hunting down as many of these and their brethren as we can find so get ready for a great tasting! ------------------------------ June "Meading" a Hit! Our June meeting was all about mead, the world's oldest fermented beverage dating back to around 7000 BC. The owner of B. Nektar, Brad Dahlhofer, appeared in person and led a tutored tasting on a large variety of meads from the traditional all honey to those featuring fruits and spices. With an alcoholic content of from 8% to 18%. we ran the gamut from dry to semi-sweet, to sweet meads. It was a truly unique meeting - thanks Brad!
