Next Meeting Sept. 14 You don't have to travel to Munich to enjoy great Oktoberfest brew - just come to the next club meeting at the Gaslight, 3 PM, on Sunday, September 14. While the real Oktoberfest lasts for 16 days our will run for only one, so don't miss it! Oktoberfestbiers have been served at the event in Munich since 1818 and are supplied by 6 breweries- Spaten, Löwenbräu, Augustiner, Hofbräu, Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr. Traditionally they were all lagers called Märzen - brewed in March and allowed to ferment slowly during the summer months. Originally these would have been dark lagers, but from 1872 a strong March brewed version of an amber-red Vienna lager made by became the favorite Oktoberfestbier. Since the 1970s the type of beer served at the festival has been a pale lager about 6% abv The original "Oktoberfest" occurred in Munich, on October 12, 1810 for the commemoration of a marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. This year's' Oktoberfest takes place from September 20 until October 5 so you have time to make the meeting and still go to the main event! Don't miss the chance to taste some great traditional and surprise Oktoberfest beers at our next meeting. ---------------------------- .Baseball Trip Hits Home Run The Gaslight/ DB15 August 4th field trip to Bears Riverfront Stadium was an outstanding success as nearly 20 club members enjoyed great baseball, beer and food on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Each club member received a record setting discount of 50% off the trip package thanks to our Treasure, Brain Lynch.
