Battle of British vs. Amereican pale ales!
Come and sample the best of English and US pale ales (NOT IPAs) in a blind
tasting to determine which country makes better brews. Representing the
US: Sierra Nevada, Saranac, Mendocino Red Tail, and others. Standing
proudly for the UK will be Bass, Young's, Fuller's and more. All beers will be
personally selected by nationally known beer writer Dan Hodge.
Be there for the fun - football season is over so there's no excuse to miss
what promises to be a truly great meeting!
Word has it that some great new beers from award winning
brewer DJ Soboti are in the pipeline. Be sure to check the
blackboard on your next visit.
Most Thursdays a new cask ale is tapped at the Gaslight.
Try this special treat and you'll think you were
sitting in you local in London.
Imperial Stout Winners
The DB15 awarded medals to three champion brewers in its
Imperial Stout challenge at the January meeting. Receiving the gold
medal and besting a strong field of over a dozen entries was the
"Princess of Brewing", Beer Nexus writer, Kimberly Strickland.
Second place went to the NJ State Fair champion brewer
Jeff Levine. The silver medal was awarded to noted beer writer
and three time DB15 home brewing medal winner Dan Hodge.
|Tasting notes from various judges on the gold medal
stout made by Kimberly Strickland:
Pours a pitch black color with a creamy head, good retention, and
some lacing,...Smells of dark chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruits like
raisins, coffee, and milk chocolate.....Ttaste starts out with some
licorice, followed by a creamy milk chocolate, raisins and other dark
fruits, and a bitter coffee finish....Medium in body with good
carbonation, smooth, but with a nice bite in the finish.......Taste is
superb with smoky hints
|Is that our own club treasurer, Brian
Lynch with Frtiz Maytag, founder of the
world famous Anchor Brewing company?
Will Mr. Maytag bethe guest speaker at
our next meeting? You'll have to come to
the Feburay meeting to find out.
