Alt Home Brew Challenge

A Düsseldorf specialty, an Altbier is a German style brown ale, the “alt” literally
translates to "old" in German, and traditionally Altbiers are conditioned for a longer
than normal periods of time. Other sources note that "alt" is derived from the Latin
word "altus," which means "high" and refers to the rising yeast. One thing everyone
agrees on is that an extended conditioning mellows out the ale's fruitiness and
produces an exceptionally smooth and delicate brew. The color ranges from amber to
dark brown, medium in carbonation with a great balance between malt and hops.

Come to the May 20th meeting of the Draught Board 15 and be a judge in our home
brew Alt challenge.  Over a dozen entries will be tasted and evaluated by everyone
attending, brewer and non-brewer alike.  Each brewer per contest rules has used the
same recipe so this will truly be a contest of the brewer's skill.

Don't miss this long awaited event - 3 PM, May 20 at the Gaslight.

Another unique meeting found only at the Draught Board 15!
...was the sad news for the many who had to be turned away as a filled
luxury bus left the Gaslight on Sunday 4/29 at 9:30 AM sharp.  Our stalwart
group enjoyed coffee and bagels before departure and then a supply of
tasty brews on board for the ride to upstate New York's TAP Beer Festival.

More festival trips and activities are upcoming so keep checking "At the
Gaslight" for the latest information.
