| March Madness - IPAs "Beer Bracketology" It's time for our biggest and most popular meeting of the year as over 32 (yes, over 32) IPAs face off in a blind taste test using the NCAA basketball tournament bracket format. The Final Four winners from last year's event will be back along with all new IPAs that have never before been in our tournament including many not available in New Jersey! Beers will be seeded based on their average rating from Rate Beer, Beer Advocate, and other media. A strenuous effort has been made to get the very best available American IPAs from each region of the nation. Everyone present will vote in our blind tasting showdown. As an added bonus all leftover beer will be raffled off in our legendary "Selection Countdown." All are welcome so bring a friend. Members, as always, are free but due to the high cost of securing the many beers for the event the guest fee for this meeting only will be $20. If you like IPAs this is a meeting you cannot miss. Over thirty-two different IPAs in a classic showdown to find out which is best and you're the judge! Sunday, March 12 at 4 PM at the Gaslight ***** Results of last year's IPA March Madness HERE ***** India Pale Ale Despite its name, the hoppy ale really is British in origin. Beyond that, its history gets a bit murky. Some say brewers needed a higher alcohol brew to withstand the sea journey from England south and east to India. Others say it filled a requisite need among early imports as British colonialism took root in India. Many versions of this style's origins exist; it seems for each one there is another story that debunks the first. Whatever the history it is without question the single most popular craft beer style in the USA. "The American IPA is a different soul from the reincarnated IPA style. More flavorful than the withering English IPA, color can range from very pale golden to reddish amber. Hops are typically American with a big herbal and / or citric character, bitterness is high as well. Moderate to medium bodied with a balancing malt backbone."
