win a beer!
The DB15 is the largest beer appreciation organization in New
Jersey, but what about the East Coast? Well it's time to make
our move. Bring a new member to the next meeting, have them
officially register, and get a Gaslight beer compliments of the
DB15 Cask Commissioners.
Why sign up for the club dues full payment plan?
Enjoy the many benefits available to club members on the
full-payment plan. A one time fee of only $65 covers all meetings,
plus discounts for DB15 special events.
This year members received benefits that totaled well over the dues
amount. Substantial discounts were provided for the TAP NY
beer fest trip, the Newark Bears baseball outing, the NJ Brewers
Festival, and the Victorian Dinner. In addition members on the full
pay plan are exempt from the individual meeting beer fee which is
now $10 per person.
Ask any Cask Commissioner
for the full details at the next meeting.

Malt Sensory Training
May 15 - 4 PM at the Gaslight
Sensory Evaluation of Malt Types
Learning the flavor of malts is more than just chewing up a
few kernels. The flavor really needs to be evaluated in water
after they have been mashed. Using techniques outlined by
the ASBC (American Society of Brewing Chemists) and
Maltsters like Briess, we will compare, contrast and
evaluate different base & specialty malts.
These techniques will involve Micro-Mashes. We will
show how to do these tests so the members can do them
at home on any malts they are considering using at home.
During this meeting we will test the Classic malts from
Germany, Belgium, Canada, the U.K. & the U.S.A.. We
will also evaluate a few specialty malts like Munich,
Wheat, Caramels, Chocolate & Black. This will be a very
informative & exciting meeting for not only the home
brewers in the group, but for any beer lover.
Our training session will be led by Gaslight head brewer
D.J. Soboti along with Jeff Levine. This is our first ever
malt sensory meeting and gives you a most unique
opportunity to learn from the experts. Don't miss it!
The main focus of the meeting will be on base malts and
2 caramel malts (though caramel malts can be almost an
entire meeting on their own). In addition we will explore the
differences between roasted & kilned caramels, European vs
American, etc. And maybe a Chocolate & Black malt.
Members - don't forget to pick up your free DB15 half
liter stein at the meetings. Steins are also available
