The DB15 is the largest beer appreciation organization in New
Jersey, but what about the East Coast? Well it's time to make
our move. Bring a new member to the next meeting, have them
officially register, and get a Gaslight beer compliments of the
DB15 Cask Commissioners.
Why sign up for the club dues full payment plan?
Enjoy the many benefits available to club members on the
full-payment plan. A one time fee of only $50 covers all meetings,
plus discounts for DB15 special events.
This year members received benefits that totaled well over the dues
amount. Substantial discounts were provided for the TAP NY
beer fest trip, the Newark Bears baseball outing, the NJ Brewers
Festival, and the Victorian Dinner. In addition members on the full
pay plan are exempt from the individual meeting beer fee.
Ask club treasurer Brian Lynch, or any Cask Commissioner
for the full details at the next meeting.

February Meeting Notes

Members present were:Vince Holmes, Chris Johnson,
Mark Ferguson, Justin Jackson, Brandon Einhorn, Livingston
Hinckley, Raffi Manjekian, Glenn DeLuca, Tom Nooney, Randy
Needham,Neil Mukarje, Brian Lynch, Vince Capano, Jeff
Levine, Dan Soboti,and DJ Soboti. present. Guests present
were Toshikp Kobiyashi, John Reid, Joe Bopp and Rich Easson.
The meeting was a presentation of seven styles of German beer
tasted against an American counterpart. Members were asked
to state their preference and try to decide which was German
and which was American. The results were as follows:
1. Kolsch The German Gaffel Kolsch
beat Samuel Adams Escape Route 14 -7
2. Dortmunder The AmericanGreat Lakes
Dortmunder Gold beat DAB 10-8
3. Pils The German Bitburger edged
Victory Prima Pils 11-10
4. Schwartzbier The American Yuengling Porter
edged Kostritzer 11-10
5. Hefeweizen The German Hofbrauu clobbered
Widmer Bros. 16-4
6. Helles The German Spaten edged Iron City 11-10
7. Dunkelweizen The American Leavenworth
beat Veldsteiner 13-8
The German beers therefore won 4-3 overall.
The German beers got an aggregate total of 76 votes
with the American totaling 65.
All beers remaining were then given away -free-
to each person as chosen by lottery.
Beers tried after the meeting were:
1. Weyerbacher Riserva (the one beer to have if you need a
reason to quit drinking) provided by Vince Capano
2. Mark Ferguson’s “IPAish” homebrew
3. Brandon Einhorn’s Stone IPA clone homebrew
4. Stony Creek IPA provided by Glenn DeLuca
5. Dan Hodge’s Sierra Nevada Pale Ale clone homebrew
6. Dan Hodge’s Snow Goose clone homebrew
7. Jeff Levine’s Bourbon Barrel Export Stout homebrew
8. Telegraph White Ale provided by Vince Capano
9. Braufactum Rauchweizen provided by the Sobotis
10. Uinta Baba Black Lager provided by the Sobotis
11. Just Beer Project IPA provided by the Sobotis
The meeting ended somewhere between 6:15 and 6:45 pm
TAP-NY Trip / Yearly Dues
TAP-NY, the biggest and best beer fest on the East Coast,
will have over 300 individual beers to taste this year!
The legendary Gaslight/DB15 bus trip to TAP will be on
April 27,2014, leaving at 9 AM and returning approx. 8 PM.
The trip package includes bagels and coffee at the Gaslight
before departure, round trip transportation, beer on the bus, and
unlimited beer and food at the festival. Sign up at the Gaslight
as soon as possible - it sells out early every year!
First come first served - there will be only ONE bus.
TAP-NY Package - $95 (non-member)
DB15 member cost - $50
Discounts to TAP, Victorian Dinner, and all other events plus
the monthly meetings only apply to fully paid members.
Dues and TAP fees are payable at the March 9 meeting.
