June Meeting Highlights
by Dan Hodge
The June meeting was truly special. No only did members get
to sample eleven summer beers they also got to select
five free beers direct from the Gaslight Vault
to take home! This first ever DB15- Gaslight Beer
Giveaway proved to be one of the most well received
activities in the long history of the club!
Members present were: DJ Soboti, Dan Soboti, Brian Lynch,
Dan Hodge , Vince Capano, Tom Nooney, Faith Franzino,
Brandon Einhorn, Steve Welgoss, Raffi Manjikian,
Gene DeLuca, Chris Johnson
In the first part of the meeting members were asked to rank
order summer beers from 1 to 10. Results were:
#1. Sam Adams Blueberry Hill Lager
#2. Leinenkugel’s Canoe Paddler
#3. Sam Adams Little White Rye
#4. Leinenkugel’s Honey Wheat
#5.and #6. (tie) Sam Adams Belgian Session Ale and
Saranac Blueberry Blonde Ale
#7. Sam Adams Porch Rocker
#8. Leinenkugel’s Berry Weiss
#9. Laughing Dog Huckleberry Cream Ale
#10. Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy
Sam Adams Summer Ale, which was mistakenly omitted,
was judged out of contest. Several members said it would have
been #1 though others rated it significantly lower.
Second part of the meeting was a “Clean out the Gaslight’s
Cellar”. Beers from the dark recesses of the pub’s beer vault
were purchased by the club. Each member was assigned a
number and when the number was called they had 10 seconds
to pick a brew from the 45 bottles displayed. The process was
repeated until all of the beers were given away.
Additional beers brought by members were sampled
after the meeting. They were:
Dogfishead Positive Contact
The Shed IPA
Tuckerman Pale Ale
Thomas Creek Inukshuk
Trout River Hoppin’Mad Trout
Jolly Pumpkin Autumn Fire
It was announced that our July meeting will be either a tasting
of French beer in honor of Bastille Day or a
guest speaker to be determined.
On April 29 a completely sold out luxury bus left the Gaslight
for our annual trip to the TAP-NY beer fest. There were 85
breweries representing well over 200 individual beers.
However, to many DB15 members the best beer of the day was
flowing freelyon the bus - Gaslight's unfiltered Kolsch!
