Bar Tending & Beerspectives

October is here and Christopher Columbus is often celebrated as the hero of the month..
As a matter of fact however he is not the foremost one to me. The heroes that I am
reminded of are the thousands upon thousands of breast cancer survivors that we
celebrate and support during this time which is officially Breast Cancer Awareness
While October is dedicated to a concentrated effort from everyone including those who
have not been affected in one way, shape, or form, it is most important to remember that
this ailment is an everyday battle and requires support and fund raising on a daily basis,
When I was about 10 years old my mother got breast cancer and it was hardly
comprehensible to me. I couldn't understand what it was, what it meant for my mother's
life, and for my brother's and mine. So every October I am reminded of that horrible
feeling and how glad I am that my mother survived and as far as I am concerned is the
strongest individual I have ever known.
In honour of every woman who has ever been through what my mother went through and
to all the families affected I am in a position to do something positive and help raise
money for the entire month. Northside Lounge has teamed up with Kane Brewing
Company and the American Cancer Society to raise funds for breast cancer research.
During the entire month of October 10% of all Kane's sales will be donated to the ACS.
On October 2nd from 7-9, a representative from Kane will be hanging out with us and we
will not only kicking off this fund raiser, but we will also be celebrating Kane's 1 year
anniversary. To kick off the anniversary party and the fund raising we will have the
following on draft:
Head High IPA
We will also have 750ml cork and cage bottles to purchase to take home as well. Come
out and celebrate a great brewery's anniversary and help us get this fund raising going.
Don't forget our effort to generate funds to fight cancer will be going on all month so if
you can't make it out on the 2nd we will be carrying at least two Kane beers rotating so
there's no excuse not to come by and have a great beer for a noble cause.
I promise next month I will have an actual article and not a support story/advertisement,
but this is something close to home and who says beer can't provide assistance for a
So come on in and raise a glass to a great brewery and a a great cause!
