Drink and Read At the Same Time

Rogue Ales is no stranger to unusual recipes,
having brewed beers with chocolate, hazelnut,
maple, rose petals and even garlic over the
years. Its White Whale Ale, however, contains a
truly “novel” ingredient: a few pages torn from a
copy of Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick,” which
were tossed into the brew kettle.

The beer, an India pale ale, was brewed in honor
of Portland, Ore., bookseller Michael Powell
who was inspired to take up his profession after
finding a first edition of Melville’s seminal work
in a box of books he’d purchased.  Presumably,
the pages dissolved (or were filtered out) prior
to fermentation, before they could impart any of
that moldering paper flavor of oxidized beer.

Distilled Ice Cream

Now available - ice cream with distilled spirits
somehow frozen into them from SnoBar Co. of
Florida. This isn't a frozen daiquiri or a slushy
treat with malt liquor in it. These are high-quality
frozen pops and rich ice creams with actual
distilled spirits as part of the ingredients that
took three years of research to develop. You
have to be 21 to buy them.
You don't say.....
