China's total beer output hit 35.15 million
tons last year, an increase of 14.7 percent
over that of the previous year.
China overtook the United States to become
the world's largest beer producer in 2005,
and since then its beer output has kept
growing by 10 percent annually.

Hard liquor is the drink of choice in four
states among 40 percent of teenagers who
try alcohol, according to a new U.S.
government survey of teenage drinking.
Bourbon, rum, scotch, vodka and whiskey
were consumed more than beer by high
school students who drank in Arkansas, New
Mexico, Nebraska and Wyoming, according
to a report in the current issue of a
publication of the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention. For the most part,
the finding held true for both genders and
across all racial groups.
The researchers suggested that some
reasons for this included the fact that it's
easier to hide alcohol consumption by
pouring it into a soft drink, and that the taste
might be more palatable to beginning
drinkers. Another reason might be that the
alcohol level is higher in liquor, so binge
drinkers feel the effect of the alcohol faster

According to the Gallup Poll released this
month, 64 percent of Americans prefer beer,
40 percent prefer wine and the other 22
percent prefer other liquor. Wine however is
easily the top choice for female drinkers
while men and younger drinkers are those
who support drinking beer.
