Strange Brews

Anyone for steak and onion Kolsch? Or a macaroni and
cheese pale ale?Those were among the flavours at the
Strange Brew Festival in Reno, Nevada, this month, where
competition for attention has intensified. As such, today's
brewers have kicked it up a notch as they try to distinguish
themselves from everyone else.

Visitors at the festival in Reno could sample a peanut butter
and pickle pilsner, a tamale lager and a smoked carrot stout.
There were concoctions from big brewers like Sierra Nevada
and smaller local brew pubs, sweet beers brewed with Jolly
Ranchers and spicy ones that tasted like garlic bread or
mango salsa. You name it they brewed it.

BrewDog Loses Discrimination Suit

A man has just won a lawsuit against BrewDog after suing
them for gender discrimination. The man, 27-year-old
Thomas Bower, sued the brewing company for refusing to
serve him a discounted Pink IPA, instead offering him a
regularly priced Punk IPA.The significance of the two beers,
other than a price difference of £1, was to protest the 20
percent gender pay gap between men and women in the U.K.

Security First

The world's largest brewer of beers has just establish its own
cybersecurity division. Anheuser-Busch InBev controls over
400 different brands of beer is a huge player in the
multi-national drinks market and it the company is already
facing regular attacks that are either attempting to disrupt
operations or force the company to pay up, ie, ransomware.

When planning alcohol purchases, only 25% of millennials
have a specific brand in mind, compared with 52% of baby
boomers, according to a recent Nielsen survey

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the average
price of beer and malt beverages “away from home”
dropped 0.5 percent in the last six months. This marks the
first time the cost of beer in bars and restaurants has
dropped in a six-month period since 1997

Though the 2018 edition of the Great American Beer Festival
was the first year that awards were given to "juicy or hazy"
IPAs, DIPAs, and Pale Ales, the U.S. region synonymous
with the style was shut out. Not a single brewery from New
England earned a medal. Instead, Illinois and California did.

A brewery’s decision to release a pair of beers with a Crips
and Bloods theme was a "dumb idea,' the owner of .Mirage
Beer, in Seattle-admitted. The cans were decorated to look
like the red and blue bandanas worn by the rival gangs. After
a huge negative backlash they withdrew the beer.

craft beer. from Creature Comforts Brewing Co. Athens,
Georgia. The Marvel movie people liked their products and
only asked for some beer and a 2XL T-shirt..

were 8,496 beers submitted for competition, averaging
83 beers per category
