Beer Diet For Lent Follow-Up

Del Hall made headlines at the beginning of Lent and was
mentioned in last month's Mr. Brewski when he announced
he was giving up everything for a fast – except for beer as
his only calorie intake.  Now that Lent is over Hall says he
needs less sleep and his mind is clearer than ever before. He
added he feels like there's no inflammation in his body.

For those worried about excessive alcohol consumption, Hall
said he's only had about two to five beers a day. "Beer isn't as
bad a people think. People really vilify beer. Everything in
excess is bad for you and really, the average American diet
will kill you faster than craft beer will," he opined.

Hall isn't sick of drinking beers, but he is a bit sick of
doppelbocks – beers traditionally associated with the monks
Hall wanted to imitate. "They're too sweet," Hall said.

Pliny Brings Big Bucks

Six weeks after Russian River Brewing Company's fabled
triple-IPA Pliny the Younger dried up on bar taps around the
Bay Area, the brewery and Sonoma County announced the
beer's economic impact: $4.16 million. That number accounts
the cash "generated by visitors for the 2019 Younger release"
to two of Russian River's locations

Altogether, that cash — roughly $800k more than it
generated last year — came from locals and international
visitors. Tourists came from 400 cities in 42 different
American states, and from 14 countries as far off as
Thailand, Malaysia and New Zealand. Around 73 percent of
those who visited Russian River traveled to the area
specifically for the Pliny release, and more than a third paid
to stay in Sonoma County lodging.
