|Pabst Blue Ribbon
Pabst Blue Ribbon has been around since 1890 and it's still
going strong. Every so often, it seems to get rediscovered by
a new generation. So just in case you're stuck with someone
who drinks that stuff you can impress without having to
drink such swill by citing these facts: It was originally named
‘Best’beer after German immigrant Frederick Pabst married
Maria Best in 1862, and began working at Maria’s father’s
brewery, the Best Brewing Company. When Best died in
1889, longtime employee Frederick took over and renamed
the brewery after himself.
The “Blue Ribbon” tag dates from 1893 As legend has it,
Pabst took the crown of America’s best beer during the 1983
World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, but that title is
dubious. Reports from the time indicate that only bronze
medals were handed out. Sigh, theres nothing left to believe in.
Do you believe in zecond chances? MillerCoors does. The
global beer giant is reviving Zima, the once-dead malt
beverage known as “zomething different.” The clear, citrus-
flavored beverage, first introduced in 1993 and discontinued
in the U.S. in 2008, is getting a second life — thanks in part
due to the success of the alcoholic beverage giant’s Henry’s
Hard Soda line.“If you’re one of the zillion fans who have
missed Zima, the answer should be clear,” MillerCoors said in
a statement read by their representative without laughing.
Zima, which clocks in at 4.7 percent ABV, is expected to
be on store shelves at some point in 2017. It remains
popular in Japanese night clubs.
