Guinness Goes Upscale

Guinness has released what they’re pitching as
an “ultra-premium beer” brewed with both beer
and whisky malt, made to be served in stemless
champagne flutes. Launched to coincide with the
holiday season and the wild popularity of craft
beer in the US, Guinness The 1759 is the first in
a Guinness Signature Series that will see a range
of limited edition “luxury” beers.

Only 90,000 bottles will be produced of The
1759, made with the same Guinness yeast that’s
been used for more than 125 years. Brewed with
traditional beer malt and the same peated malt
whisky used in Scotch and Irish whiskies, the
result is an amber ale that delivers a butterscotch
aroma with subtle hop notes, mellow caramel
flavors and fruity sweetness.  The 25oz (740ml)
bottle of beer serves four and has a suggested
retail price of US$35 (RM115). It’s also
recommended to serve the ale in stemless
champagne flutes to maximise the flavour.

Stout Only Glass
Glassware maker Spiegelau had collaborated
with Left Hand and Rogue breweries, both
known for making excellent stouts to lanuch the
first ever stout-specified beerglass.  The glass
supposedly enhances the flavor and smell of
stouts though they don't provide evidence of the
claim or details on the glass construction.
You don't say.....

Most people have at least one bottle of beer around their
fridge for months.  This unintentional "cellaring" is okay for
heavy stouts, Trappist beers, and barleywines. But not for a
hop monsters since the beer's aromatic qualities die off
quickly with age. For hop centric beer drink it fresh!
Skunking starts within minutes of a beer being exposed to
light, yes, even fluorescent lights in your fridge can damage
brews! For outdoor drinking, consider using an opaque cup.

A new device allows you to brew in your car!  Sorry, it's
not beer, it's coffee.  However  BeerNexus contributor Brian
Lynch has a few issues with the invention:"If you java
minute, I'd like to just espresso my views on making coffee
in your car. I think it could cause a latte problems. There
would probably also be grounds for a traffic citation."
According to the Washington Post the NFL's
Washington Redskins are  still selling expired Budweisers at
FedEx Field.  This isn't the first time the Redskins hawked
old concessions; the team once sold peanuts from an
out-of-business airline.
