No Beer, No Firefighter

MANVILLE (NJ) — The former president of
one of the borough's three volunteer fire
companies said he was voted out of his post
earlier this month by the membership after he
pulled the plug on unlicensed firehouse beer
sales from a soda vending machine.
Jason Zangara, 27, an active volunteer
firefighter with Manville Fire Company No. 1,
said that he had just begun serving his second
term as elected company president when his
decision to ban the sale and consumption of
alcoholic beverages in the firehouse was met
with strong objection by the membership.
Zangara said there was a long-term practice of
selling beer at the firehouse out of a soda
vending machine, but the firehouse had no liquor
license. When members objected to his ban, he
said, he opened up the machine and took the
beer out. But members responded by bringing in
a beer dispenser and giving out free beer
instead.  Zangara claimed he tried to stop the
sales because it was dangerous for beer to be
consumed before firefighters went to a fire.

For six of the past eight years, an IPA has been the top new
craft brand in a given year. So the reign of hops carries on.
The biggest week for craft beer sales is in July, specifically,
around the 4th which is the largest selling craft beer day.
Bud Light Lime Ritas franchise is doubling. The brand is
introducing two new permanent flavors – Mang-O-Rita and
Raz-Ber-Rita – as the third and fourth flavor profiles in the
Bud Light Lime Ritas family, which also launched a fifth
flavor – Bud Light Lime Cran-Brrr-Rita. Ugh.
A drive by Anheuser-Busch to make Major League Baseball's

to the White House to respond to a signature campaign that
garnered support from baseball fans across the country..
Colorado’s governor was hard at work installing a draft beer
system in the governor’s mansion. Gov. John Hickenlooper,
the original co-founder of Denver’s Wynkoop Brewing, can
now pour beer from his state’s revered beer makers.
A Tasmanian whisky has been named best single malt at the
prestigious World Whisky Awards in London. Tasmania
Distillery's Sullivans Cove French Oak Cask took out the
honour, judged against more than 300 other whiskies.
It is the first time a Tasmanian distillery has won the award,
which has been dominated by Scottish and Japanese
distilleries.  Hey if you like beer you like single malts.
Since 2011, Hops for Heroes brewing program has been
expanding each year. The dedication to our troops by the
craft brewing community can be seen with 11 total
breweries participating in 2014. This dedication can also
be seen by the growing number of sponsors.
